SGT (R) Brent “Hoss” Hendrix, A Final Salute

Our chapter is requesting donations for SGT (R) Brent “Hoss” Hendrix’s end of life expenses.  Donations will go towards funeral and estate expenses and provide travel funds for Brent’s family to be present at Arlington National Cemetery for his internment. Brent’s service will be held at the Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer, VA, on July 28th, 2020 at 1500 hours.  Guests are asked to be seated in the chapel by 1415 hours.

We were privileged to call Hoss a friend of our chapter and that he chose Cincinnati as his home after leaving the Army.  Brent was that rare, memorable individual who filled the room, figuratively and literally, with his oversized presence.  Hoss was severely wounded in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on June 26, 2006.   His injuries included the loss of his right leg and he spent the next 3 years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center working towards recovery and rehabilitation.  He was medically retired from the Army on the 3rd anniversary of his Alive Day.

Hoss became a fixture in the Wounded Warrior community, especially at Walter Reed.  His larger than life personality was an inspiration to everyone that he encountered.  Often clad in shorts, he used the story of his recovery to aid in inspiring those around him to persevere, regardless of their struggles.  Hoss never met a stranger and he had the most infectious smile that could brighten any day.  He volunteered with several military organizations.  Our local AUSA Chapter had the privilege of working with him and presenting him at many of its functions to provide uplifting messages. Brent was loved by many.  He was a soldier.

At the time of his passing, Hoss was majoring in Communications at Xavier University.  To read SGT (R) Brent “Hoss” Hendrix’s obituary, please visit here.

Your donation may be tax-deductible.  The Major Samuel Woodfill Chapter of the Association of the United States Army is a 501(c)(3) organization.
